VOCs are volatile carbon compounds which contribute to air pollution and cause ozone depletion - and are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands. In the case of furniture, we see VOC’s primarily in the paint and adhesives.

Key signs or symptoms associated with exposure to VOCs include conjunctival irritation, nose and throat discomfort, headache, allergic skin reaction, dyspnea, declines in serum cholinesterase levels, nausea, emesis, epistaxis, fatigue, dizziness.

The ability of VOCs to cause health effects varies greatly from those that are highly toxic, to those with no known health effect. As with other pollutants, the extent and nature of the health effect will depend on many factors including level of exposure and length of time exposed.

We don’t take chances here at Little Urbanites, which is why we take great care to only sell furniture with very low to no VOC content.

There has been lot of media surrounding the dangers of BPA in drinking products. Research has shown that the toxic chemical bisphenol A leaches from plastic baby bottles when heated.

According to the published reports, there are several recommended ways to reduce your exposure:
· Use glass, stainless steel, or polyethylene bottles (PETE, PET, or #1; HDPE or #2; LDPE or #4) instead of polycarbonate (look for the #7 imprinted on the bottle) bottles.
· Avoid heating foods in polycarbonate containers. Use glass or ceramic containers instead.
· Cut back on consumption of canned foods to reduce exposure to bisphenol-A contamination from the interior coating of the container. Also, avoid canned foods with
higher fat content, which may have higher levels of bisphenol-A.

Our last shipment of Kidsonroof cardboard houses lasted no longer than ten days in the store! These houses have been in such hot demand that we had to suffer through weeks of waiting on back-orders. Every single child that enters our store is drawn to these cardboard houses. Our display model is very well decorated by all of our little visitors!

After a year of trying, this mother and her husband learned they were having twins; unfortunately, her husband was laid off of work.
